FAQs

What is home organizing and how do I know it’s right for me?

Home organizing is a process where we work together to edit and declutter your home and then install tools and systems that work for you and your lifestyle, so you can maintain the organization. One thing I like to emphasize up front is that it is important that you are ready to undertake this process and desire a change or transformation for your living space because this is not always easy. There are a lot of emotions tied up in our belongings and our homes and often those can be barriers to the change you’re hoping for. Rest assured that they’re usually barriers we can overcome together, but you need to be willing to dive in with me.

I also like my clients to understand that home organizing does not involve cleaning, and there are certain tasks that I’m not equipped to undertake. This is why I do a free 30 minute consultation before we begin working together to ensure we’re the right fit for each other because you need to be comfortable working with me on what is ultimately a very personal endeavor.

How involved do I need to be throughout the process?

This is totally up to you, but your engagement in the planning and then editing process is pretty essential. I need to know what you need, what you’re comfortable getting rid of, what you want to keep, and how you flow through your life so I can create lasting systems for you. Often I will assign my clients “homework” to go through items before I arrive to save them time/money, but some clients need more support on the editing process. This is when I really make an effort to feel like a trusted friend and confidant who can guide you comfortably through what no longer serves you and help you let go. Where I will preserve your time is in the actual sorting and organizing - this is where my super powers are put to use and where I can work entirely independently.

I’m embarrassed by my home. Do you ensure confidentiality?

I put my clients and their comfort above all else and I maintain a judgement-free approach in all that I do. I will do my best to reassure you that there is nothing to be embarrassed by and that asking for help is an incredible first step! I do not share client names, addresses, photos, or other information without your consent. Photos posted on my website or social media are only there after a client has specifically granted me permission to use them.

Why do you charge by the hour?

Everyone’s space and amount of belongings are different. While I do my best to estimate how long a project will take, I cannot guarantee how quickly we can progress based on the amount of editing, sorting, and organizing that is required.

How do you manage donations?

I take one car load of donations per session. If you have large furniture or a large amount of donations, I will arrange for pickup during our session or can do a separate drop-off for the same fee as sourcing ($50 per hour).

I feel like my home is disorganized, but I don’t actually know what I need - help!

This is why you’re reaching out. We’ll do a 30 minute free consultation where I’ll ask you about your space, your challenges, your routines, and how you live your life, so that I can guide you to the right things. If you decide to work with me, I’ll develop a plan and we’ll work together to make organize your home with systems that will work for you and last.

What types of payment do you accept?

I primarily accept payment via Zelle, but can accept Visa and Mastercard credit cards. Please note that credit card payments are subject to a 3% fee.

What is your cancellation policy?

Organizing sessions are booked in advance to ensure preparation and professionalism. Should you need to cancel or reschedule, you must do so with at least 48 hours notice, or you will be subject to a fee. Cancellations without rescheduling will incur a fee of 50% of the scheduled service. Cancellations within 24 hours may be charged up to the full fee of the service. For clients who are experiencing an emergency or health issue, I try to be as flexible and understanding as possible. Please contact me to reschedule and cancellation fees may be reduced or waived. Sessions canceled due to emergencies and rescheduled within 2 weeks will not be subject to any fees.

How far do you travel for clients and do you charge for mileage?

The DC metro area traffic can be a challenge, but I’m willing to travel for my clients! I live in Northeast DC and service clients within a reasonable radius (1 hour of drive time in each direction, or about a 25 mile radius) in Maryland and Virginia. I do charge a drive time fee of $10 per 15 minute increment when driving more than 30 minutes. This means if it takes me 35 minutes to drive to your home, and 40 minutes to get back, you will incur a $10 fee on your invoice for direction - $20 total. This is to cover my time and fuel costs and typically is for clients ~10+ miles from my home.
