How Home Organizing Works

When you’re feeling overwhelmed, sometimes the hardest thing is figuring out where to start. It can be even harder in your home where you want things to be different, but can’t seem to find the time or energy amid all of the other things happening in your life.

That’s where I come in.

My job is to make your life easier and create systems that work for you, without judgement, because let’s be real - no one’s home is perfect!

I take a tailored approach to every client, getting to know you, how you live your daily life, and what challenges you face. From there, we work hand in hand to establish a plan to organize your space in a way that works for your daily routine. I work with you to edit what you no longer need - donating what we can - and then I free up your time, working independently to declutter and organize until your space feels how you want it to, so you can breathe easy in your home.

Moving + Life
Transitions

Moving is one of the most stressful events in life, but it doesn’t have to be. I work with you to edit what you don’t want to move with you, and then you leave the packing and unpacking to me.

If you’re experiencing the loss of a family member or other life transition, I can also help you navigate that difficult period, helping you decide what you want to hold onto and how to transition smoothly with what remains.

Sourcing
Systems + Tools

With endless options, sometimes the most difficult part of getting organized is finding the right systems and tools to fit your home and lifestyle. *This is an integral part of home organizing, so the first 2 hours of planning and sourcing are complimentary when you book 2 or more home organizing sessions.

  • "Julia came recommended via a trusted neighbor. Early on, she set me at ease with her knowledge of various organizing approaches and ability to blend them to fit the needs of my household. Prior to sessions, she sent helpful emails and placed supply orders to ensure our time together was well-spent. During sessions, I enjoyed her company, was impressed by how much we got done, and appreciated that she made follow-up tasks and billing simple and easy."

  • "As a Foreign Service Officer moving back to a Washington DC condominium, I was completely overwhelmed when my 200 boxes of household goods were delivered from overseas. Julia patiently helped sort my big loads of clothes to pare down my closet. She was an absolute wizard in organizing my kitchen. She miraculously fit my dishes, glasses, serving ware, and gadgets into the existing space. She also had very helpful tips on the right organizing inserts for my cabinets. Julia was the perfect advisor and has an amazing eye for what will fit where. You’ll thank yourself if you call her!"

  • "I was preparing for a move that landed right after a big international trip and I had my hands full with closing paperwork. Julia packed up my entire apartment while I was gone—in a way more organized fashion than I would have done myself. She kept me updated the entire time and also coordinated the delivery of boxes, supplies and a flooring project being completed simultaneously at my new residence. Knowing everything was in her capable hands, I was able to fully enjoy my vacation and the feeling of coming home to a completely packed apartment was priceless. She also helped me transport some more delicate items and unpacked and organized my whole kitchen the day of the move. Julia is one of one!”

My Approach

I tailor my approach entirely to you, but it starts out with some basics that are the same for every client. These are my principles for organizing in a way that meets you where you are:

Meet + Plan

We start with an initial free consultation where I get to know you. This includes understanding your needs, challenges, and goals for organizing. I then create a bullet-pointed plan and timeline for our work together.

Edit

The most important part of organizing is editing, also known as de-cluttering. This doesn’t mean tossing everything. It means helping you decide what you need and what no longer serves you. I will work with whatever you want to keep, without judgement.

Organize

This is where you get to relax and let me do all the work. I will take what we’ve edited, create zones and systems that fit your lifestyle and needs, and create an organized space that you can maintain.

Iterate

I believe in iterating based on what you need. This means taking what I’ve organized and seeing how it works in practice. Sometimes some tweaks are needed so the systems are easy to keep up with. I work with you to make sure that happens.
